SOAP & SPIKES #7 (CANADA)
The Out Cold stuff is mighty kick ass!!!  This band tears through three tunes in a quick flash image...Negative Approach, Final Conflict, and a dash of Discharge cool!!  No Side, from Japan, destroy side two of this record as well with their BGK/Crucifix style of punk.  So quit dragging your knuckles and give this a spin on that ol' turntable.

FLIPSIDE #120
Man, these guys have me shittin' my pants so to speak.  Here we are about to embark on a new millennium and these guys are going back in time.  I mean, first we had neo 60s garage and then even neo 77 punk bands.   Now we've got 80s hardcore revival bands.  Both these bands play in a great 1, 2, fuck you style with pissed, shouted vocals while the instruments pummel along unrelenting.  For some reason I expected Out Cold to be ultra-fast thrash along the lines of Siege or Heresy.  While they are certainly mining the same era and spirit as the former, they're closer to the suburban punk rock on the cusp of when hardcore had just become a catch word.  No Side from Osaka, Japan hearken back to the US-influenced Japcore that was thriving in the late 80s and at that time brought relief to a world scene stagnant from various crossover trends.  Manic, old school thrash.  Thrashead and all you other true hardcore fanatics should be dying to get your meat hooks on this.   Tell 'em Squeaky sent you.

UNDERGROUND PUNK SUPPORT #6 (NETHERLANDS)
On their own label, a hell of a split 7".   Their first release in their new line-up, with John2 on guitars and Muzzi on bass.   Three great songs.  Raw, fast and catchy.  Typical Out Cold.  Great aggressive production, with some more distortion on the vocals.  Three killers!   And is there something on the other side?  Yes, No Side!  Confused?   Well, No Side is the band on the flipside and is from Japan.  And they are incredible great!  That a Japanese band can sound that close to an American band from 1983!  These 4 Japaneses sound really like old Crucifix, but even faster and with a fuller sound.  I love Crucifix, so you understand No Side makes me wild too.  It is said before, but if this band was from the States, they would be very well-known.   Make the effort and try to get this EP!

QUICK DUMMIES #13
Shit, y'know I love Out Cold so I was stoked to get this for review.  This long standing Boston outfit turns in 3 songs of abrasive hardcore with their trademark Negative Approach/Jerry's Kids type sound, although Out Cold is awesome enough to be in a class all by themselves.  No Side, from Osaka, Japan, also turns in 3 songs with a similar type sound (fast & chaotic like Assfort & Gauze).  It's cool cuz I've never heard of them before and because of this record that I want to search out more of their stuff.  The song titles are in English but the music is so fast that I honestly can't tell if they're singing in English or Japanese.   Anyway, this is a great release showcasing both of these bands' talents, so get this, listen to it, and then buy everything else these bands have available.

HEARTATTACK #23
Aside from the bamboo flute and koto stuff, have you ever heard a slow song by a Japanese band?  I haven't, and you won't on the No Side side of this split.  They unravel three blistering songs like a more hardcore version of Teengenerate or The Registrators.  This is quality music to jump around to.  The Out Cold side is also good and similar, but cleaner and not as over the top.   Each band does three songs.  I have to say this is worth the trans-Pacific price.

MAXIMUMROCKNROLL #196
Japan's No Side are a trashy, scratchy, fast punk rock band.  There's no doubt that their pace is accompanied by tons of action live--possibly injuries are also involved.  Out Cold, a US band, play similarly thrashy shit with more frenzied, intriguing vocals but a bit less musical aggression.   Both bands combine the speed and anger of early 80s hardcore with sloppy garage fuzz, and it works.
