Reviews:

INK19
ABT provides evidence that modern punk rock doesn't entirely suck.  Preferring fuzzed-out guitars and a sci-fi lyrical bent, the trio oozes with energy and rock power at any speed, a quality that's quite the rarity these days.  Sadly, these four songs blow by much too quickly.

MOTION SICKNESS #8
This is nothing like I was expecting.  As a matter of fact, I forgot what it was that I was expecting.  Sounds like there's some good punk coming out of Mass.  The first song is an instrumental that rips, and when the singer kicks in for the next three songs it's just icing on the cake.  This thing is packed full of energy and ass kickin' riffs.  It never lets up from the word go.   This is not pop or hardcore, just blazing punk that kind of reminds me of the stuff that was coming out of Chicago in 82-85.  The drums sounded flat but I'm sure it was just the recording.

MUTANT RENEGADE #11
A garage punk band monster with a singer who sounds like he's already had his transfusion.  Very aggressive, loud and raw.  I love it...just give me more!!!

SOAP & SPIKES #6 (CANADA)
This band hails from the Boston area.  This four track 7" sure the fuck rocked my world.  I like it when I get records from labels I've never heard of.  It's a nice surprise to be honest.  I always expect the worst.  If you like a band who have a vocal sound like Christ On Parade and music that sounds like The Proletariat then you will like this.

FIRST FAILURE (AUSTRALIA)
Here is some good punk rock from the States.   No gimmick, just straight up with a hint of late 80s crossover sound in the guitar.   Mid-paced to up-tempo, really basic sounding stuff.  This kind of has a tiny little resemblance to Out Cold as well.  4 tracks on this one makes it a damn fine release from this semi-new 3-piece.  Back to the roots punk rock.

SUBURBAN VOICE #43
Better than the Ilsa 5" that came out awhile back.  A side project for Mark & John from Out Cold and a slightly more traditional punk take, although "Abducted" picks it up to a faster tempo.   Hard-edged, bad-ass fodder and getting the job done for "Hot Red Negative" and "Insect.

SPECIFIC HEAT #5 (SINGAPORE)
A good release from Acme Records.  Sounds 80s skate rock with a touch of raw punk trash.  I like their first song.  Something different, pretty imaginative.  I'm sure skaters would dig this.  It's not something you hear everyday!  Recommended!

HELD LIKE SOUND #6
Another weird surprise.  I liked this raw, dirty, rocking punk music.  I think that these folks basically did a good job of creating this music and recording it.  I might even bother to go see them play sometime, as long as it wasn't somewhere like the Ottobar that isn't all ages most of the time (I'm 22, but if it ain't all ages, it's not for me).  Speaking of which, this does sound like it belongs on a jukebox playing in a cigar-smoke-filled room of slightly shady but adventurous characters.  Would I be there?  Maybe.

TREATS FROM THE UNDERGROUND #5
With a name like Alien Blood Transfusion I was expecting some soulful rhythm & blues, but it turns out they are a punk rock band!   I personally never got into stuff like Black Flag or the Misfits.  That's the style these guys play and they do it pretty well I might add.  Old school punkers should take a chance on this.  I'm gonna pop in some Dying Fetus instead.
