LAST BREATH #4 (SERBIA AND MONTENEGRO)
First time I heard about this Finnish wonder was when Dreamstate was supposed to do their show in Belgrade. If I remember correctly, at that time they only had Pleasure/Disgust album and 2 singers. Very average fast hardcore/punk with bunch of short songs. My band was fortunate enough to play with them three times. Praise the Lord! One of the best live bands. An unbelievable amount of energy comes out of them. The singer breaks everything in his path, even his ribs (for real!), wildly engaging with the people without being too violent. Off the stage, he's very pleasant and talkative person. The whole band is very cool and there's no typical Western European/American bullshit. As far as the music goes, it's mostly fast hardcore, short beats mixed with Black Flag riffs which adds up to rising tension during their show. Guitar player is great, but drummer...ouch! What a blast! First guy that I know of that managed to rip the skin not in the middle, but out of the drum rim! This record is great, but it does not reflect the energy of their live show. I was so blown away with their live show that I totally don't care about the lyrics which could be pornographic, pedophilic, I don't care. I was blown away with their live show and that's all that matters. For those of you that didn't see them live, well, you can only hate me.

This Finnish quartet plays the kind of desperate and frantic hardcore that's hectic and certainly in a hurry to get some place but is not as spastic nor as obnoxious as that of The Locust and all those sheep that are following them in their new convoluted sound. To a degree, Hero Dishonest play it straight forward and that's something that we must thank them for. When The Shit Hits The Man thrives on that; a couple of simple chords, sped up enough for you to do the windmill or smack the fuck out of whoever is unfortunate enough to be right next to you, slam dance your way to the pizzeria and even bang your head with one of those nifty melodic, yet punchy aggressive riffs. What is most admirable is that these dudes know, one, how to keep it simple; two, know how to keep it quick; and three, know how to keep it entertaining. So, how they do the latter? Well, for all their adherence to traditional hardcore, there are plenty of variations in speed and moods. Their shifts are natural and include not only rhythmic changes but playful instrumentation; like the funky inclusion of hanging basslines, the multiple samples serving as links between songs, and their careful walk between aggressive and violent American hardcore and its more melodic cousin. And how do they keep it quick? Well, they make short songs and that's that. The album's twenty-one tracks pass you by and leave you not with a bad taste but perhaps craving for just a bit more. And how do they keep it simple? Well, Hero Dishonest are quite the inventive bunch keeping variation as a low key element so their musical fluctuations pass undetected. Special mention should be given to vocalist Sir Sweat-A-Lot, who barks and screams his way through the record yet manages enough histrionics to do justice to the band's humorous side.

Man this thing is fucking killer! I have heard previous releases by these dudes and I saw them live a couple years back, but I have absolutely no recollection of them sounding like this. Total driving, energetic-as-fuck, not afraid of the rock, (non-gender specific) balls-out hardcore from Finland. As much as I am tired of hearing it said, there are definitely a few nods to the house that Ginn built, but for the most part this is incredibly fresh and original sounding. There are a few where-the-fuck-did-they-pull-that-weird-ass-part-from moments, but this kills all from start to finish. I wish it were on vinyl (and it may well be--this is just the US version--who knows?)

Totally raging fast hardcore punk from this Finnish band. Any fan of Dead Nation, Tear It Up, Dead Stop, or D.S.-13 is going to want to be all over this. Actually, the more I listen to this, it really reminds me of that great second Paint It Black record. Doesnt get much better than this for hardcore.

Punkrock from Finland is definitely some of the best in Europe. Next to bands like Endstand and Manifesto Jukebox, Hero Dishonest are setting the world on fire. During their 7 year-long career these guys played 300 shows and released 4 albums and 3 EPs. With their intense and furious way to play hardcore/punk it's no wonder why I like "When the Shit Hits the Man'. 21 tracks played in 26 minutes shows not only speed and anger like Black Flag and the Circle Jerks used to have in their songs, no, Hero Dishonest also put in some melodies and a voice that not only yells around but also can sing. Between this and that you can find 21 old but innovating hardcore/punk tracks that will make many kids smile. The whole effort comes with nice cover artwork and a well-done CD booklet. So you'll have something great for your ears and eyes.

Sometimes even exhausted subgenres like hardcore get the occasional jolt of freshness. Courtesy of Finland, Hero Dishonest take it up a notch. Though they are about as subtle as an axe blow to the noggin, they take a more musical approach thats missing in most latter day hardcore acts. They kind of remind of The Upright Citizens from back in the day. They also could be hardcore punk's answer to Napalm Death. Klem Bentons vocals and Sir Sweat-A-Lots blastbeat metabolism are a keepsake to that vibe. There is some especially searing technical guitar work can be found on 180°, Crawl Song, Death Wish, If I Cant Drop Out Its Not My Revolution, Monkey Song, and Arm The Squirrels. The blistering fat bottom g-stings that Dorgastmatron brings forth are attestation that this gentleman is no mere bar chord Billy. He and his boys put out. Say it. Spray it. Get the job done. Do it well and be quick about it. HD do it with 21 songs in 25 minutes. Check out the MP3s and tell me it doesn't take your head off.

When Hero Dishonest played a basement show in Boston in late 06, it wasnt necessary shit flying but there was plenty of dust n dirt. Flailing hardcore punk from the veteran Finnish crew, but with nuance. Not just thrash-a-mania. Since the last album, Let Your Poison Scream, Hero Dishonest have shed a vocalist (it used to be a dual screamer set-up) but the sound remains as boisterous as ever. Fast, tight and navigating some wild twists and turnsfor instance, theres a rhythmic tribal flavor to Road To The Arctic Ocean. One also hears a hint of Black Flag guitar strafein fact, these guys have a substantial US hardcore influence. Theres the obligatory cover version and its Deep Wounds I Saw Itnot a band everyone covers, though. The lyrics, mainly in English, have a sarcastic bent, especially when discussing certain elements of punk rock. I get the feeling they dont have a lot of patience for some folks stridency of belief or humorlessnesskind of summed up on Bring Your Own Toilet Paper: with no no no, dont believe the crust/life aint that bad, the sky wont fall/its just too much d-beat, broken toilets, bad attitude and a wrong diet. Hero Dishonest dont merely try to fit a certain mold, opting instead to create an atmosphere of pure burn.
