SMASHIN' TRANSISTORS
To paraphrase from the description that Tony of the Bill Bondsmen used to sell me on this record (with a money back guarantee none the less), take whatever it was that made Teengenerate so loud and insane, then mix it with the disgust and rage that fueled Black Flag up to the "Damaged" era and it would come close to what these wild Japs are up to. Lightning fast guitars, drum rolls like thunder and stopping on a dime just to have a reason to floor it into a crowd of people, this is one of those record that will break necks if you aren't careful. Five blaze-n-rage tracks that'll bounce your head off the concrete for days on end but l guarantee you'll keep coming back for more punishment.
SUBURBAN VOICE #45
No Side could have a farting session in the studio and they'd make it sound awesome. Okay, that's a stretch but every record I've heard from this band so far has been killer. Five songs that ended up on compilations and are pulled together for this 7" release, including 'Peckerhead Kill Kill', which would be cool for the title alone but is also an anthem punctuated by squalls and squeals of feedback. Not mining any one particular influece--thrash, rocknroll and punk molded into a rough-hewn inferno.
RAZORCAKE #4
5 song reissue of (duh) comp tracks. Solid golf-club-meets-forehead thrash with no fruity trimmings. Includes the delightful 'Peckerhead Kill Kill'.
MAXIMUMROCKNROLL #219
This is some fucking killer punk rock! These guys jumpstarted the resurgence of 'old school' (think 1982-'83) punk rock in Japan a few years ago by putting out some amazing tracks on some impossible to find releases. Now we are fortunate enought to have Acme Records reissue a couple of their songs from various compilations. This is ripping thrashy punk that sounds like it was pulled straight off one of those amazing 'We Got Power' compilations that were on Mystic Records. Pumping bass lines and distortion-filled circle pit madness! Now if you are all lucky somebody will put out No Side's 'Depressing Day' domestically as well. Doubtful, but you never know!
MASS MOVEMENT #10 (WALES)
Five tracks of raging Japanese HC that'll tear your head off at a thousand different places. No Side play just the kind of back-to-basics-balls-out-foot-to-the-floor punk rock that is much beloved here at MM. Once again, Acme flip the bird at the world and come up with a winner!!!! Bouncing off the walls never felt so good.
SHREDDING PAPER #10
Hardcore Punk Rock' it says on the back cover, and a fine example of same it is. Originally released on the 'Raging Hardcore Shot', 'For Ugly For Beautiful', and 'No Fate' compilations (with the tracks from RHS remixed) this fulfills the stereotype of the Japanese being responsible for blazing, superior hardcore. If you have any love for hardcore whatsoever pick this up today!
