MASS MOVEMENT #9 (WALES)
Now this is my kind of HC--fast, furious and full of energy!! The eight tracks on this here slab of vinyl slam ya into the wall and hurtle past and the vocals...man, this is the sound of anger!! It warms my cold, dead heart knowing that there's still bands like Cockroach out there, so I'm just going to say this...If you love HC, you'll love Cockroach. You don't want "Stay Angry", you need it. It's that simple.
MISSION DISTRO
Wow. Eight lightening fast songs with frantic, angry vocals (reminds me a bit of 9 Shocks Terror) and sincere lyrics makes for one damn fine package. The bad news is that they're Dutch, so the chances of me getting an opportunity to see them any time soon is slim. The good news is that the insert contains their discography, noting three other records of theirs, so there's still more Cockroach to be had. Definitely for fans of good, fast hardcore.
DUTCH THRASH E-ZINE (NETHERLANDS)
After their raging split with Mihoen this Dutch trash tornado returns with 8 new songs that will leave you bleeding on the concrete, begging for more. Cockroach turns up the speed level on this one and mix old-school punkrock with screamy 90's trash like Charles Bronson. The kids are the future.
AARDSHOCK (NETHERLANDS)
Extreme hardcore is on the rise here in Holland. Bands like Seein' Red, Insult, Point Of Few, Mihoen and several more dedicated fast-freakin'-maniacs. I'm a little tired of terms like fastcore, powerviolence and today it's bandana-thrash, I'll keep it to very fast hardcore in the vein of bands like Drop Dead and Infest (whenever these ring a bell). Before this EP, they already released a split-EP with Mihoen and a split with Gride from Czech Republic is on the way. This EP contains 8 short and ultrafast songs of the better kind and the lyrics deal about injustice, egoism and animal abuse. Who can ever be against that?
PLAYGROUND (NETHERLANDS)
The guys from Cockroach released under the flag of Acme Records - again- a historical piece of vinyl. Their previous 7" was a collective effort with Mihoen, while this time these Cockroachrockers spittin' out 8 songs on their own. When listening you need to have a trained earsystem, because Cockroach won't take any weakness. This is crust-on-speed which is hard and without any compromise. The sound and style remembers to legendaric underground violence of Heresy and Impulse Manslaughter. The vocalist slavert like Karl Patton used to do by Vomithead. Gitare, bass and drums take control with the speed of a fucked-up F16. Is there nothing to compare with this? Take the current hitsong from The Hives in your mind, multiply their raw sound with 100 and you'll have an impression. Total noise? Mmmwuha.., The Hives for softies, Cockroach for the real diehards, tasty!
MAXIMUMROCKNROLL #215
Raw, fast and furious punk/hardcore hailing from Holland. Their split with Mihoen was my first introduction to Cockroach, and this EP continues in the same vein: fast hardcore with female vocals [incorrect...it's a male vocalist. -ed.]. The raw recording helps as well. Nothing groundbreaking, but swell nonetheless.
