This issue of L.B.V.K.B.V.R.Da... fanzine ended up becoming very hard core oriented. So, I am going to finish the zine with an American hardcore band. It is a great situation to put in an interview with DRI, but I already did that in #2. Next band from America which I would love to see in my zine would be Out Cold. Yeah, I know that Macedonian fanzine Nexus and GOTS have already done interviews with them, but voices in my head made me do it, too. On to my questions, answered by John Evicci, drummer and founding member, American. Just to mention that John has his indepedent label...
Hi! I am sorry, but I must ask you something about band history, members, releases...We formed in 1989. We're currently on our 15th member. Only two original members left: myself (John, drums), and Mark (vocals). Currently Duece is playing guitar and Mikey is playing bass. We're currently working on our 6th studio album. We've also released a live album and a bunch of EPs and splits. Go to our website for all the details.
Name of band is "Out Cold", but there are sites (and zines) where I found name "Outcold" (one word)!?
Our name is Out Cold. Two words. It's always been that and we've never spelled it otherwise. It is extremely common for people to combine the two words of our name for some reason. I have absolutely no idea why. Quite frankly, it's annoying.
Is there any other fanzine from Serbia who made interview with you?
Yes. Get Off The Stage did an interview with us about 1½ years ago and an old magazine from Novi Sad, called Tri Drugara, did an interview way back in like 1993 or something (how is it possible I remember this?????)
Tell me something about true hard core (old school hard core punk), hard core that you are playing. What is the thing that makes you so strong that you never change music you playing, no metal influence, never sold out... What is the salvation for hard core?
We grew up in a time when 99% of all the good punk & hardcore bands turned into metal or progressive shit (late-80s) and we've always despised this, so that's the reason we've always been very focused on not changing. We all like other types of music, but if we wanted to play different types of music we'd start another band. Out Cold is a hardcore band. Period. I think the salvation for hardcore is for people to just be true to themselves and not try to do something just because it's trendy. Trendiness is the antithesis of true hardcore.
What do you think about metal bands who call themselves "new age hard core"? In the first place I think about MTV bands (Korn, Slipknot and shit like that).
We don't like it. It's not our cup of tea.
Do you have tattooes? What kind of tattooes can be found on the members of band?
I'm the only one in the band without tattoos. Everyone else has quite a few. Mostly they are music-related tattoos, but some of them have other general stuff like dragons and girls and stuff like that. Pretty much what you'd expect I guess. Mark has a Mosrite tattoo. He's obsessed with Mosrite guitars.
I'll now make this interview easier. Just add word or few words...
The most stupid question you can get (in interview) is...
What is the name of your band?
Best band on your label is...
The Shods.
Your best show ever...
Well, you'd probably get a different response depending on who you ask. My personal favorite was Ingólfstorg, Reykjavík, Iceland.
Your worst show ever...
Barbakan, New Haven, CT. Truly a wrist-slitting night of misery.
The best band/s on the world scene today is/are...
Hero Dishonest, whom we were lucky enough to tour Finland with.
Underline what do you more prefer (you can add some comentary if you want)
European scene (for shows/touring) / American scene (for music)
I vote / I never vote
magazines / fanzines
music zine / music and politic zine
Sex pistols / Ramones
I am straight edge / I am not straight edge, but I think that sXe is OK / I dont like that
pure DIY / little independent labels / major labels -- don't care, just give me good music
I think multinational companies are OK / I hate them and theirs monopoly and I think people shall boycott them
profesional sports / eXtreme sports (skate/MTbike/BMX) -- don't give two shits about sports at all
Ok! Thanx for the time you had wasted. Tell me what do think about this interview. Do you think that I deserve to be found on "Out Cold" thanx list? Write something for the end.
The interview was pretty good. Thanks for taking an interest in our band. You deserve what you get! Hello to everyone in Serbia! We miss you!! Hope to see you again someday. Keep in touch.
